Chinese Taipei Ophthalmological SocietyThe society is committed to actively participate in the eye health care and to promote academic research in ophthalmology. A crucial undertaking as part of the society's short-term objectives - charity eye disease service - has been staged in rural communities across the whole country since 2004. The society's long-term objectives lie in prompting preventive medicine, promoting basic and clinical research, and establishing a nationwide register system on ophthalmic disease. As a member of APAO, we successfully hosted the 18th APAO in March 2001 at Taipei. In June 2002, the second Global Chinese Ophthalmic Conference was also held at Taipei by our society. We sincerely hope to have the second chance to host the APAO meeting in the near future.
