All India Ophthalmological SocietyThe All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) was established in the year 1930. The objectives of the society are cultivation and promotion of the study and practice of ophthalmic Sciences, Research and Man Power Development with a view to promote social contacts amongst ophthalmologists. The society organizes conference every year in different parts of the country. The first conference was organized in 1930 at Mumbai. The Golden Jubilee Conference was organized in 1992 in New Delhi . Last Annual Conference was held at Kolkata ( West Bengal ). The 69th Conference is scheduled to be held in February 2011 at Ahmedabad ( Gujarat ). In these conferences mutual exchange of ideas and latest knowledge in the field of Ophthalmology, Research and Manpower Development are done through a number of scientific programmes, symposia, seminars, workshops and hands on courses called Wet-labs. The Society also gives incentives to the members in the form of awards, orations and fellowships in recognition of their distinguished services in the field of various ophthalmological sub-specialties. The Society has also introduced Life Time Achievement Award for senior eminent Ophthalmologists. Our young Ophthalmologists are taking more and more interest in the affairs of the Society. The current membership of the society is 13068. |
