Chinese Ophthalmological SocietyChinese Ophthalmological Society (COS) was found in 1937. Since the Anti-Japanese War, the work of COS fell into standstill. In 1950, COS was rebuild and played an important role in uniting ophthalmologists, conducting the domestic and international academic exchange, promoting the development of ophthalmology in China. At present, COS has 11 sections, including prevention of blindness, glaucoma, cataract and pseudophakia, corneal diseases, vitreous and retinal diseases, ocular trauma & orbital diseases & ocular plastic, ocular immunology, ocular pathology, optometry, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, ocular physiology etc. The Congress of COS was independently held since 1965, initially once every four years, then once every two years since 2000, annually since 2005. The scale of the Congress of COS is expanding and participants were about 4500. Since 1995, three international ophthalmic conferences, The First Global Chinese Ophthalmic Conference, Beijing International Glaucoma Conference were held by COS. Recent years, COS has done a lot of works for promoting Chinese ophthalmology to be modern and internationalization. COS guilds and supports the Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology (CJO). CJO was found in 1950 October and monthly publication now. |
