24th Congress, Bali, Indonesia 2009

The 2009-10 Class has participated the following sessions in the 24th Congress.

1. Selected Scientific Programs

The following selected sessions from the scientific program:
  • APAO Leadership Development Program Inauguration Symposium [OE-S3];
  • AAO Leadership in Medicine [OE-S1];
  • ICO How to tackle problems in developing countries [PB-S1].

2. Induction Session May 17, 2009

The Program Committee welcomed the participants. Dr Bruce Spivey, ICO President, and Dr Michael Brennan, AAO President, gave their encouragement to the future leaders.

Dr Zelia Correa, Dr Mary Lawrence, Dr Sundaram Natarajah and Dr Jun S Wong shared their experience on leadership programs and their LDP projects.

Self-initiated Project

The objective of the project is to enhance the Ophthalmology profession, eye services and society at-large. The major areas shall include:

  1. Patient care enhancement
  2. Training and education
  3. Research and development
  4. Community work
  5. Leadership developments
  6. Advocacy
  7. Others

Each participant is required to plan and execute a project in one of these areas. By January 16, 2010, they shall forward their project briefs and propose a mentor to the Central Secretariat.

A mentor will be assigned to provide personal guidance.

Program Recognition

Participants who have successfully and satisfactorily completed all elements of the program and the self-initiated project will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement of the APAO Leadership Development Program.
